Presentation ARKEL Arkel International is a private company based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which undertakes construction projects worldwide. The company serves organizations, governments and the military. In 2008, Arkel had approximately 300 employees and $ 85 million in annual sales. The company was founded in 1954, first undertaking the construction of chemical and refinery complexes in the Mississippi Valley. It then spread to other parts of the United States, then internationally. Although Arkel is diversified, Arkel International specializes in construction in difficult environments, by building secure installations with autonomous power supplies. Arkel's first overseas project was a large sugar refinery in Sudan. The Kenana project was huge, involving a 40-megawatt power plant, conduits, canal pumping stations, grinders, etc., and ended up costing $ 613 million. In 1974 it was awarded to Lonrho, but after cost overruns in 1977, the management contract was awarded to Arkel. Arkel won a government contract in Kenya to overhaul and expand the Nzoia Sugar Company in 1988. The project was disrupted, with delays and cost overruns, and ultimately a review committee recommended the cancellation.
